PostSubject: PLAYOFF PREVIEW & Seeding Rank   Sun Feb 23, 2014 9:46 am

No Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my! Did Dorothy really know who would miss the playoffs this season?

Well, with week 15 in the books there appears to be just one question  that requires an answer - Patriots or Bills? The rest of the playoff picture is sorted and although there is a very slim chance Pittsburgh could be caught for the 6th AFC seed it's a bit like the Denver Broncos catching the Seattle Seahawks in the Superbowl at Metlife Stadium in the 2nd half, possible, but soooooo unlikely.

Ok, here's how the seeds are going to go down according to my whiskey stained, slightly cracked crystal ball:-

AFC
1 Colts
2 Broncos
3 Ravens
4 Pats/Bills
5 Chiefs
6 Steelers

NFC
1 Rams
2 Eagles
3 Vikings
4 Falcons
5 Cowboys
6 49ers

Clarification of a couple of points is required, i accept most of you HC's struggle to work out the plot in your average James Bond movie.
In the AFC all is pretty much set, with a MEGA week 17 match-up between New England and Buffalo to determine the East Champion, with the loser going home.
The NFC playoff combatants have no such problem with the Panthers and Saints at 8-6 already eliminated. Seeding is a little more complicated but if the Eagles beat the Cowboys in week 17 they will take the 2 seed on a tie-breaker over both Dallas and Minnesota.

Still with me? Ok, prediction time. This means wildcard weekend gives the Ravens a chance to avenge a cpu loss at home to the Steelers, the Chiefs will win on the road to the Patriots, the Vikings take care of the 9ers and the Cowboys get a road win in Atlanta.

Here's where the first shock will happen, Divisional weekend will see the Chiefs continue their road adventures by pulling off an upset in indianapolis, the Ravens also win away at Denver, the Cowboys sneak the 'W' in Saint Quinn Louis and the Vikings get revenge in Philly. Yes my friends, ALL four games shall be road wins.

Leaving us with Baltimore edging out Kansas City and Minnesota pipping Dallas in the Conference games. Eder v Afro 2 for the Superbowl contest with Minnesota taking it by a score.

Of course, my crystal ball has been known to get it wrong occasionally and the chances of me being wrong are relatively high this season as the phrase 'any given Sunday' springs to mind. There really is NO clear favourite and good luck to all who make it, and to those who didn't ….. MAN UP ya bunch of girls!

As we started with a quote from the Wizard Of Oz it seems right we should end with another. My crystal ball clears after all this playoff malarkey and a new image forms, a cloudy picture comes into focus and it's, yes, it's Cam Newton, singing 'if i only had a brain' ……….

If it turns out to effectively be a playoff game then Brza will probably allow it - but you still need to win against Harps' Dolphins first!

Give Matt Forte the ball  Very Happy

Scenario's are these:-

1) Bills are eliminated with a loss v Dolphins regardless of ANY other results
2) Bills are eliminated if Patriots beat Ravens regardless of ANY other results
3) Patriots are eliminated If Bills win both remaining games and Patriots lose to Ravens

Simple Slash - you have to win both games and hope Baltimore beat Pats.

Even though it would be logical, Division tiebreakers aren't decided by the total score in the two games in the NFL. If the Bills beat the Pats and have the same record to end the season then the next tiebreaker would be division record, then it gets real complicated(from nfl.com):

NFL wrote:
TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION
If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.
Two Clubs

  1. Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
  2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
  3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
  4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  5. Strength of victory.
  6. Strength of schedule.
  7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
  8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
  9. Best net points in common games.
  10. Best net points in all games.
  11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
  12. Coin toss

The bad thing is Madden doesn't really have the real NFL tiebreakers coded into the game. In the past they actually would decide tiebreakers based on ALPHABETICAL ORDER  Shocked Shocked They've gotten better at it since Madden 12 I think. But its still anybody's guess how Madden determines the tiebreaker once it goes past the division record.

Tricep - if Dolphins beat Bills Pats win division on Conference tie-breaker.

I think Madden TB's are ok until it gets real complicated and teams have identical division and conference records.

But this can't happen with Bills and Pats - re my post above.

Dolphins are in your division. If you lose that means a victory over the Pats means their conference record is superior as you would both be 4-2 in division.

You need to win both and Pats need to lose both or you go out on division or conference tie-breaker.

But if he loses both and you win both it won't matter either because you'll be 9-7 and he'll be 8-8.

I beat the ravens, but I still see this as a must win match as a winner takes all. Or am I mistaken?

p.s How long does it take for an Injury to show on the injury list? Does it only show up instantly after the game, or do I have to wait for the week to be advanced?

Brady got taken out in the last minute -.- I need to know if hes ok lol
